Lyoto Machida

The man who could not be defeated has been defeated...by the other man who could not be defeated. Last night at UFC 98 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lyoto Machida earned the title of UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion after delivering a devastating knock out to former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans.

The fight started off very slow, as the first round consisted mostly of the two fighters bouncing around the octagon trying to feel each other out. However, Machida clearly won the first round after delivering a couple brutal leg kicks and also dropping Evans at one point with a left straight.

Round two, however, is where Machida secured his victory. After rattling Evans with a series of precise blows, Machida landed one final left hook that completely incapacitated Evans and dropped him to the floor, at which point the referee immediately called an end to the fight.

After his victory, Machida delivered an enthusiastic speech to the crowd about pursuing your dreams and how anything is possible. Despite his poor English, the message was well received and it appeared he had won over the entire crowd. He also excitedly proclaimed that "karate is back!"

Lyoto "the Dragon" Machida now holds an impressive professional record of 15 wins and zero losses (no draws). Perhaps Joe Rogan said it best when he announced that we have entered the "Machida era".
