Just over a fortnight after the former UFC fighter was yanked from an event, the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission) has decided to revoke the suspension given to him.
Gregory Sirb, the Executive Director of the PSAC confirmed that Marquardt is now free of any restrictions or sanctions placed on him after satisfying all of their medical and other assorted requirements.
"Today, Nate Marquardt was taken off suspension by the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission," Marquardt's people told MMA Junkie. "This comes less than three weeks after not being medically cleared to fight at UFC on Versus 4 in Pittsburgh and being placed on suspension."
Marquardt was removed from his scheduled bout with Rick Story when blood tests showed his testosterone levels being outside of the limits allowed by the PSAC. This is a strong indication of performance-enhancing drug use. Marquardt was subsequently suspended, which caused him to soon be let go by the UFC organisation. It was later revealed that he had been taking a hormone that was prescribed to him by his personal doctor, not one that was approved by any state regulatory commission.
While it is unclear who Marquardt's next opponent will be, his people remain optimistic and look ahead to the future.
"Nate is still one of the best MMA fighters in the world and will resume his career in the sport after deciding which venue is right for him," they stated. "Nate would like to thank his sponsors, family, and friends who supported him through this difficult time."
