George St Pierre vs Dan Hardy

Despite his best efforts last night at UFC 111, Dan Hardy was unable to gain any traction in his fight against Welterweight champion George St Pierre. St Pierre was named the unanimous victor after 5 brutal rounds.

Hoping to win the fight on his feet, the dangerous Brit striker seemed powerless against the repeated takedowns administered by GSP, costing him valuable points with the judges along the way. GSP also locked in a couple submissions that looked like they might end the fight, but Hardy refused to submit.

Final judges scores were 50-44, 50-43 and 50-45, a unanimous decision in St Pierre's favor. Although he retained his title, GSP was visibly unsatisfied with his performance.

"I wanted to finish the fight in beautiful fashion", he remarked shortly after the decision. "I'm very sorry".

Shane Carwin vs Frank Mir

Colorado native Shane Carwin made short work of the veteran Frank Mir, beating him into an unresponsive state and forcing the referee to call an end to the fight at just 3:48 into the 1st round. Carwin remains undefeated in his professional career and has yet to even meet an opponent capable of taking him to the 2nd round.

This latest interim heavyweight victory has MMA fans all around the world clambering even louder about an inevitable Carwin/Lesnar fight in the near future. Like the fans, Carwin is also eager for this to happen.

“That fight’s been canceled two times,” Carwin said regarding Brock Lesnar. “It’s destiny that we meet.”
