Hello again folks, this week I will be giving you my opinion on the outcomes of a few of the fight taking place on the upcoming UFC event “UFC 125: Resolution”, which also happens to be the first event of 2011.

Phil Baroni vs Brad TavaresThe first fight I’m going to talk about is on the undercard. The Ultimate Fighter season 11 Semi-Finalist Brad Tavares takes on mixed martial arts veteran Phil Baroni. Brad Tavares; a Hawaiian born mixed martial artist who is coming off a decision win against Seth Baczynski at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale. Brad showed good stand up and a great chin on the show and will be looking to continue his run in the UFC on January 1st. Phil Baroni Started his career in the UFC with a bang with a couple of knockout wins the most memorable being against Dave Menne. Phil’s stand up has immensely improved after training for a few months in Thailand at the legendary Tiger Muay Thai gym. I see Brad Tavares’ youth helping him win this fight, Phil is coming off of a 2 fight losing streak which i believe is a sign his career is coming to an end. I think Tavares will win via KO in round 1.

Thiago Silva vs Brandon VeraNow to the main card with Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera. Both men coming off a loss; this fight is going to be crucial if they want to stay in the mix in the stacked light heavyweight division. Thiago: hasn’t fought since January in a unanimous decision loss to “Sugar” Rashad Evans. Silva (14-2-0) is a dangerous Brazilian fighting out of the American Top Team gym. He is known for his aggressive style which has rewarded him with 11(T)KO’s in his 14 wins. He is fully fit for this fight and is looking to get back in the hunt for title contention. Brandon Vera is a wrestler turned mixed martial artist also coming off a 2 fight losing streak; the first being to “The natural” Randy Couture at UFC 105 and the second coming at UFC live on Versus: Vera vs. Jones. Brandon is known in the UFC for his Stand up game but through college he wrestled for the Old Dominion University and then the United States Air Force. In my opinion Silva’s experience will prove too much for Vera and I see the fight ending with Thiago’s hand being raised due to a TKO.

Frankie Edgar vs Gray MaynardFinally I’m moving on to the main event: Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard. The two of them met once before in the octagon at UFC Fight Night 13 where Gray walked away from the fight victorious via unanimous decision. Gray is riding a 5 fight win streak since defeating Edgar and is also undefeated in his mixed martial arts career. Frankie Edgar is back after Winning the UFC lightweight title and successfully defending it against Bj Penn, Something that very few people thought he could do. Since losing to Maynard he has also won 5 fights against opponents such as: Penn, Sean Sherk and Matt Veach. This fight could go either way but I see Maynard’s wrestling being too much for the champ to handle and Gray Maynard being crowned the new UFC lightweight Champion by way of split decision.
