Ever since he withdrew from his UFC 106 bout with Shane Carwin, people have been whispering about Brock Lesnar and the current state of his health. In December, courtesy of Lesnar's trainer, we learned that Brock had been diagnosed with diverticulitis, an infection that attacks the digestive tract. Immediately rumors began flying around the internet that Brock Lesnar may never compete again.
Although Lesnar has become a huge asset for the organization, UFC president Dana White insisted in response to this news that he was far more concerned with Lesnar's well-being than he was how this would affect the UFC.
“The thing that I’m concerned about most is...that he’s okay," White stated in a recent interview. "I’m not looking at Brock Lesnar and saying, ‘oh Brock,’ now he’s gone and we’re gonna lose all these pay-per-view buys."
Fortunately, White may not have to be concerned about either problem for much longer. In two different late breaking reports, trainers Marty Morgan and Greg Nelson each confirmed independently that Lesnar will indeed compete once again and is expected to make a full recovery from the affliction that many believed might be the end of his career.
Nonetheless, Dana White and the UFC have already set up an interim heavyweight title fight between Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira which is set to go down at UFC 111 to move the heavyweight division forward.
Lesnar, a devout husband and father, and the owner of his own fight wear company, DeathClutch, seems fully intent on getting back to training and competing as soon as possible. Although we have no direct comments from Lesnar regarding his health, we've heard nothing but positive messages coming from those with whom he has spoken with lately. We will post more information here when it becomes available.
